Online Video CLE courses
for Illinois attorneys |
FAQs
| Q. |
Are your courses approved for MCLE credit in Illinois? |
| A. |
Yes. MentorCLE is recognized as an approved provider by the Illinois MCLE Board, which means all of our courses are approved for MCLE credit. You will find us listed on the MCLE Board's website at http://www.mcleboard.org/approved-courses-providers.htm under Accredited CLE Providers. Our professionalism/ethics courses are also approved by the Commission on Professionalism. The number of credit hours for each course is listed on our website.
If you have any questions about this or any other matter, please contact us at info@MentorCLE.com or phone 847-559-9525. |
| Q. |
How does this website work? |
| A. |
1) View whichever course(s) you want – whenever you want – as often as you want – for free. Each course is split into short segments to make viewing easy. You can pause the video and come back later to finish it, or view a course one segment at a time.
2) Register and pay for as many courses as you want Illinois MCLE credit for. On the registration page, you will be certifying that you have viewed the courses for which you want MCLE credit. You will receive an email confirming your purchase that will include a certification that you have completed the course.
3) When we receive your registration for a course, your name and Attorney Registration Number will be added to the list of people who have registered for the course. We maintain this list for inspection by the MCLE Board, pursuant to their rules.
4) It is your obligation under the Illinois Supreme Court rules to certify to the court authorities that you have completed each course you are claiming MCLE credit for. The court will set up a procedure for certifying that you have completed the courses, similar to the annual ARDC registration procedure. |
| Q. |
Why do you let people view the courses for free? |
| A. |
Our courses are of the highest quality, so we are confident that you will choose to purchase them for credit even if you can view them for free. You get to look through books at a bookstore before you buy, don’t you? |
| Q. |
Who produced these courses? |
| A. |
All of our courses were produced specifically for Illinois attorneys by Professional Education Resource Corporation, an Illinois attorney-owned company. For more information about us, see About Us. |
| Q. |
What is your refund policy? |
| A. |
You should view the courses you want credit for before you register for the courses. Your registration includes your certification that you have viewed the course(s). Once you have registered and paid for the course, your name will be included in the records we keep under the Rules of the MCLE Board, so we cannot refund any fees paid for courses. |
| Q. |
What should I do if I can’t view the videos? |
| A. |
If you have any difficulty viewing a course, please first consult your IT professional. That person is most familiar with your system and is the most likely to be able to help you.
The most common problem you may encounter is trying to view the course on a computer that does not have audio-video hardware. This is rarely a problem on home computers, but some law firm and corporate computers do not have the required hardware.
The second most common problem is trying to view the course on a computer that does not have multimedia software loaded. The required software is available for download free at http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/ If you continue to have problems, please email our technical staff at technical@MentorCLE.com |
| Q. |
The video keeps stopping at the same place. What should I do? |
| A. |
This is almost always caused by a momentary interruption in your Internet connection which you probably wouldn't otherwise notice. Once the connection is interrupted, the video stops loading. Your computer stores the incomplete video, and when you try to view it again, you see the incomplete version.
To be able to view the complete video, you should delete the incomplete video from your computer's cache, or temporary memory. To do this, go to the Start Menu on your computer, and then to the Control Panel, and then to Internet Options. On the "General" tab, locate the Temporary Internet Files section and click Delete Files. Once the incomplete file is deleted, you should be able to view the video all the way through. If you need help, call us at 847-559-9525. |
| Q. |
Do you keep track of which course(s) I take? |
| A. |
Because the courses can be viewed for free by anyone, we do not keep track of who views the courses. We only keep track of who registers for MCLE credit. This information is not sent to the court unless they ask for it, and we do not respond to requests by attorneys who want to know what courses they have taken. It is your responsibility to keep track of which courses you have taken, so we suggest you keep a copy of the Certificate of Completion that is part of the receipt we email to you after you register and pay for your course(s). You are not required to furnish this information to the court unless they ask for it. |
| Q. |
How do you know if I viewed a course? |
| A. |
When you register and purchase a course, you are certifying that you have already viewed the course. The MCLE Board accepts self-certification from attorneys. |
| Q. |
Are your courses approved for CLE credit in other states? |
| A. |
We have not filed our courses with other states. However, some states may allow you to get credit for our courses anyway. Check the rules of the state(s) that you are licensed in. |
| Q. |
Can professionalism/ethics courses be counted as general courses? |
| A. |
Yes, but they can’t be counted twice – as both professionalism AND general hours. For example, you can satisfy your 20-hour requirement by taking 12 general hours and eight professionalism hours. |
| Q. |
What is the difference between professionalism and ethics? |
| A. |
The Illinois Supreme Court Rules require you to take four professionalism hours. Ethics courses are one type of professionalism course. You do not have to take any courses that are specifically about ethics. |
| Q. |
Will you be adding more courses? |
| A. |
Yes. Please check back for new course listings. |
| Q. |
Can I be an instructor? |
| A. |
We are always looking for people who are experts in their field and who are good presenters. If you are interested, please let us know. Suggest a Course or Presenter |
| Q. |
Can I suggest a course for you to produce? |
| A. |

| Q. |
Can I suggest an instructor for a course? |
| A. |
We are always looking for people who are experts in their field who are good presenters. If you know of someone, please tell us. Suggest a Course or Presenter |
| Q. |
Do you read the evaluations? |
| A. |
Every single one. Thanks for your feedback. |
| Q. |
How can I contact an instructor? |
| A. |
Each instructor’s email address is noted on your receipt when you register for a course. |
| Q. |
Can I copy the video and show it at my firm or bar association? |
| A. |
No. We do not allow copying for any purpose, under any circumstances, and we strictly enforce our rights under copyright laws. However, anyone can view the course online, so there is no need to copy the course. |
| Q. |
Why are the courses presented in segments? |
| A. |
To make them more convenient to watch. Watch as many segments at a sitting as you like. Take breaks whenever you want. Also, we want to make our courses available to as many people as possible. Some people’s computers and Internet connections are not as robust as they could be, and short segments are transmitted more reliably than longer videos. Also, if your connection is interrupted, segments make it easier to find your place when you return to the video. |
| Q. |
Do I have to read the written materials? |
| A. |
No. The video is the course. All you need to do to get MCLE credit is to watch the video. The written materials are a supplement to the course. |
| Q. |
How do you keep your prices so low? |
| A. |
We aren’t trying to support a large bureaucracy. We just want to make it easy and affordable for lawyers to get their MCLE credits. |
| Q. |
Do you provide continuing education for other professions? |
| A. |
Not yet. We’re thinking about it. |
| Q. |
How many hours of MCLE do I need? |
| A. |
Tweny hours, but the Illinois Supreme Court has already announced that they will be increasing the requirement to 24 hours in two years, and to 30 hours two years after that. A summary of the rules and the full text can be viewed at MCLE Rules. |
